The victim's husband said he had just left the home at about 7 p.m. to bring his daughter into the city when a man dressed in camouflage and face paint stormed into the home.

The husband said the man then went upstairs and confronted his wife, who was sleeping.

"She was upstairs sleeping and she gave him a hard time. He hit her in the head. For what I can see it was three times. It was a bloody mess. They had to stitch her up," the husband, who did not want to give his name or address, told WCBS 880 reporter Sophia Hall.

The woman was hit in the head with a gun and, to make matters worse, she had just had back surgery.

"She is not doing well. He stepped on her shoulder. There's boot marks on her shoulder to hold her down," her husband.

After finding out the safe in the home was empty, the suspect allegedly ran out of the house.

"He wasn't interested in anything other than quote 'the safe,'" the husband said.

No arrests have been made.
