Justin Tuck: Organized Practice A No-Go For Giants' Defense
NEW YORK (WFAN/AP) -- Justin Tuck has a message for Giants fans: "Just because you don't see us doesn't mean we're not practicing."
Eli Manning, five other Giants and one NFL hopeful were in attendance at Hoboken High School on Wednesday for the penultimate workout of the quarterback's two-week passing camp. Don't expect a similar display from the Giants' defensive unit.
"I know how we are," Tuck told the New York Daily News. "We kind of have a tendency to get a little competitive when we start working out together. So we wouldn't want anything stupid to happen. The best way to prevent that is to have nothing organized."
Giants receiver Victor Cruz isn't worried about being hurt in Eli's passing camp, noting on Tuesday he is young enough to still be covered under his mother's insurance policy.
Tuck's approach is more cautious.
"I like the fact that Eli has stepped up and gotten guys together," said Tuck. "But for us and for me personally, I just chose to make sure guys are working out and doing the right things for safety reasons."
Manning set up the workouts about a month ago after getting permission to use the field from Mauro DeGennaro, the high school's athletic director. Quarterback Sage Rosenfels, tight end Kevin Boss and receivers Michael Clayton, Hakeem Nicks, Duke Calhoun, Victor Cruz, Samuel Giguere and others have all participated in camp Eli.
"With Eli and his receivers, I think it's more important for them to be on the right page," said Tuck. "I think it won't take (the defense) as long to get in our groove."
