Jacksonville GM: 'I Can't Imagine A Scenario Where Tebow Will Be A Jaguar'

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Once the Jets' season wrapped up in disappointing fashion against the Buffalo Bills, it seemed almost certain that it was the last time Tim Tebow would ever wear the Jets' colors.

It turns out that might not be so.

As the season progressed, and Tebow's playing time continued to be limited, reports came out that the Jets would release or trade Tebow in the offseason. Reports then indicated that Tebow, who was leapfrogged by third-string quarterback Greg McElroy when Mark Sanchez was struggling, would request to be let go by New York.

Many pointed to the Jaguars, Tebow's hometown team, as a logical destination for the former first-round pick.

Jacksonville, coming off a disastrous 2-14 season, had expressed interest in bringing the backup quarterback back home.

But then general manager Gene Smith was fired, and on Thursday the team announced that head coach Mike Mularkey will be relieved of his duties.

Dave Caldwell is the new GM in Jacksonville, and he doesn't appear to be on-board with bringing in the unconventional quarterback.

Speaking at his introductory press conference on Thursday, Caldwell said, "I can't imagine a scenario where (Tebow) will be a Jacksonville Jaguar."

Caldwell went on to say that even if Tebow is released, he doesn't see himself bringing the 25-year-old in.

In the Jets' season-ending press conference on Tuesday, head coach Rex Ryan wouldn't address Tebow's future, only saying that "Tim is under contract" and "It is way too early to say what any of our players' futures are."

When asked by the Fox Business Network where he believes he'll be playing in 2013 , Tebow's answer was vague, and he didn't allude to whether he'd like to return to East Rutherford, N.J..

"That's a good question," Tebow said in regard to his future. "But right now, I am excited to be here talking with you and that's what I am focused on right now."

Tebow played in 12 games for the Jets in 2012, throwing just eight passes and completing six for 39 yards. He also carried the ball 32 times for 102 yards. He didn't score a touchdown.

Well, so much for that. Where will this guy end up next season?! Let's hear your predictions in the comments section below...
