Police: Man Found Fatally Shot In Queens
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A man who worked for an investment banking firm was found fatally shot on a street in Jamaica, Queens.
The body of 48-year-old Mohamed Hamwi was discovered just after midnight Tuesday near the intersection of 105th Avenue and 173rd Street after someone called 911, police said.

When they arrived, officers found Hamwi with gunshot wounds to the head and torso, police said. His credit cards and $200 in cash were found in his wallet, authorities said.
Hamwi was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said. He lived around the corner from the scene of the shooting with another man described by police as Hamwi's husband, CBS 2's John Slattery reported.
His mother-in-law said Hamwi was walking home from the LIRR Jamaica station at the time of the shooting.
"It had to be to rob him, but someone must have surprised him and run off," she told 1010 WINS' Al Jones.
Hamwi worked for Trepp, a financial data and analytics firm, and has family in Syria. Neighbors said Hamwi helped support his mother, who lives in Syria.
Those in the community were shocked to hear about Hamwi's death.
"It's just very disturbing," neighbor Eric Arrington said. "You don't want this to happen to anyone."
"He's a quiet guy," neighbor Rhodora Hill told Slattery.
"He's a nice young man," another neighbor said.
A neighbor said Hamwi had worked in the World Trade Center, but arrived at work late on 9/11.
Residents said the street is usually quiet and crime is rare in the area.
"I'm so sorry for his family, for him losing his life unnecessarily. It's terrible, terrible," longtime resident Olivia Hopkins told Slattery.
Police were searching for surveillance video that may shed light onto what happened, Slattery reported.
The investigation is ongoing.
