Intrepid Museum Opens Arms To Kids This Week

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- It's Kids Week on the Intrepid.

With New York public schools out for midwinter break this week, the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum is offering a jam-packed schedule through Feb. 23 of tours and activities for children.

In an in-studio interview aired Sunday morning on CBS 2, Nicole Vartanian, vice president of education for the Intrepid, said each day will have a different theme, such as superheroes, Broadway and sports.

"It's really a great time to come to the Intrepid," Vartanian told CBS 2's Cindy Hsu. "This weekend, in particular, we have activities under the themes of science meets science fiction. We're really pleased to be hosting Nicole Stott, who is an NASA astronaut, and who will be giving talks and demonstrations and be available for autographs. And we're sure she'll be an inspiration to our visitors.

"And we also will be visited by some of your favorite 'Star Wars' characters, who are always a big draw and a lot of fun to have on the ship."
