With a short week of preparation, the (2-0) New York Jets will have a mountain of injured players to deal with when the desperate (0-2) Philadelphia Eagles invade MetLife Stadium for a Week 3 showdown.
Gang Green's list of probable names breaks down with an even four players on offense and the other half can be found on the defensive side of the football. The offensive Jets likely to see action this week despite injury are: wide receiver Devin Smith (ribs), guard James Carpenter (back), quarterback Geno Smith (jaw) and, last but not least, tackle Breno Giacomini (biceps).
On the opposite side of the rock, Jets defensive coordinator Kacy Rodgers is fortunate to have the following defenders listed as probable on Sunday: safety Jaiquawn Jarrett (shoulder), defensive end Stephen Bowen (knee), linebacker Lorenzo Mauldin (concussion) and cornerback Antonio Cromartie (knee).
On the questionable portion of New York's NFL Week 3 injury ledger, three key offensive players and arguably the best defenders in the league can be found. In danger of not suiting up on gameday are: running back Chris Ivory (quadricep), wide receiver Eric Decker (knee), guard Willie Colon (knee) and the man who has an island named after him, perennial All-Pro cornerback, Darrelle Revis (groin).
Lastly, cornerback Darrin Walls is considered doubtful. The fifth-year man out of Notre Dame recorded a tackle in the Jets season opener against Cleveland prior to suffering a hamstring injury that led him to sit out Monday night's win over the Colts.
As far as Chip Kelly's Eagles are concerned, the former Oregon head coach and his staff wrote down the names of nine players total in their NFL Week 3 IR. Three of those players can be found on the offensive unit, including struggling running back DeMarco Murray (hamstring), who missed practice and had an MRI this week.
Nevertheless, there's no need to fear Eagles fans, because all indications are that last year's NFL Offensive Player of The Year/rushing champion will take the field on Sunday. "He'll be fine," an unnamed source told ESPN. "He'll play." The other two offensive players on Kelly's injured sheet are wideout Seyi Ajirotutu (flbow), who's listed as probable, and tight end Trey Burton (shoulder).
The remaining six hobbled bodies are on the defensive side of "The Duke." Safety Chris Maragos (hip) and defensive end Fletcher Cox (groin) are listed as probable, while the remaining four have been officially ruled out of Sunday's contest after failing to participate once in practice: defensive end Cedric Thornton (hand), linebacker Kiko Alonso (knee), defensive end Taylor Hart (shoulder) and linebacker Mychal Kendricks (hamstring).
