Officials: Data Breach At Huntington Hospital Impacts Personal Information Of 13,000 Patients
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Officials say there has been a data breach at Huntington Hospital.
The hospital notified about 13,000 patients that their personal information was illegally accessed.
Administrators said a night shift employee had allegedly improperly accessed electronic medical patient records between October 2018 and February 2019.
That hospital worker has since been fired and is charged with a criminal HIPAA violation.
As a precaution, Huntington Hospital is offering affected patients complimentary identity theft protection services.
