Police: Man Wanted For Slashing Woman Outside Apollo Theater

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A woman was slashed in the face by a stranger on Monday night in front of the famed Apollo Theater.

As police searched for the suspect on Wednesday, the woman's family said she's afraid to return home, CBS2's Jenna DeAngelis reported.

"I was shocked. That could happen to anybody," family member Qel Krasniqi said.

The senseless act was captured on video surveillance.

"I mean, it's 8 o'clock, ou're walking down the street and a guy just slices you. It's crazy," Krasniqi said.

As seen on the video, the woman is walking down 125th Street when a man passes her, appears to take a razor out of his mouth, turns around and slashes her face.

Her family said the 48-year-old widow was just on her way to work, trying to provide for her kids.

"She's a really good woman. She's a hard-working woman. She goes and works nights at banks," Krasniqi said.

The victim was going from one cleaning job to the next when she was attacked. You could see the shock on her cousin's face when he got a first look at the surveillance video.

"That's very bad, very bad. Shame, shame for the people like that," Bajram Krasniqi said. "She's trying to make a living and another person just go and just hit her like that? That's shame."

His concern is that police believe the attack was random and unprovoked, so the suspect is still out there and can strike again.

"I hope the police are gonna catch him and, you know, because it happened to her ... it will happen to someone else, too," Bajram Krasniqi said.

The family said the victim is scared. She's staying with a friend.

She received seven stitches to her face.
