Giants' Manning Named Finalist For NFL Man Of The Year Award

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Thanks to all of his hard work with children's charities, Eli Manning has been named one of three finalists for the NFL's Walter Payton Man of the Year Award.

The award is given annually by the league honoring a player's volunteer and charity work. San Francisco 49ers wider receiver Anquan Boldin and New Orleans Saints tight end Benjamin Watson were also named finalists.

This year's winner will be announced during NFL Honors, a two-hour primetime special airing nationally on Feb. 6, the night before Super Bowl 50, from 9-11 p.m. on CBS.

According to the NFL's official website, the winner will receive a $55,000 donation in his name to a charity of his choice and the two runners-up will receive an $11,000 donation. The other 29 team finalists received a $5,000 donation. Donations are courtesy of the NFL Foundation and Nationwide.

Past Man of the Year winners include former Jets Marty Lyons (1985) and Boomer Esiason (1995). No Giant has ever won the award.

Though the Giants missed the playoffs for the fourth consecutive season, Manning had one of his best statistical seasons, throwing for 4,432 yards and a career-high 35 touchdowns.
