De la Renta died on Oct. 20 at his Connecticut home at the age of 82, following a battle with cancer.
The Dominican-born designer, famous for his intricate workmanship and glamorous designs, was as admired on Hollywood red carpets as he was at socialites' soirees.
He first made a name for himself in the 1960s as a designer for the most famous woman in the world, Jacqueline Kennedy, CBS2's Scott Rapoport reported. And is widely credited with helping to put American fashion on the global map.
First ladies became one of his specialties. De la Renta later dressed Hillary Clinton and Laura Bush for their husbands' inaugural balls.
Most recently, Amal Alamuddin wore a de la Renta-designed dress when she married George Clooney at a lavish wedding in Venice.
