Fire Damages Popular East Village Korean Fried Chicken Restaurant

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A fire damaged a popular restaurant with an extensive jazz record collection in the East Village early Sunday.

The fire broke out in the early morning hours Sunday at Mono+Mono, a Korean fried chicken restaurant at 116 E. 4th St. that is known for its collection of 30,000 jazz records.

The restaurant reported that fire was quickly put out and everyone was safe, but there was some water damage and the restaurant would have to close for a few days to make repairs.

But DNAInfo reported flames jumped 35 feet into the air, destroying air conditioning and exhaust units held in a wooden structure on the roof. The fire also knocked the windows out at the Hell's Angels' headquarters directly behind the building on East 3rd Street, the publication reported.

The manager of Mono+Mono told the publication he thought most of the records survived the two-alarm fire, but some sustained water damage.

No one was injured in the fire, the restaurant reported.
