Fairfield Firefighters Rescue Dog Trapped On Ice-Covered Pond

FAIRFIELD, Conn. (CBSNewYork) -- Firefighters came to the rescue of a dog that was trapped on an ice-covered pond in Fairfield, Connecticut.

Delilah, a 19-year-old shepherd mix, wandered onto thin ice Monday morning and then couldn't get back to shore.

Her owner called for help.

One firefighter tried to walk on the pond, but the ice immediately broke, so he used a "rescue stick" provided by animal control to pull Delilah to safety, CBS2 reported.

The dog was cold and wet, but otherwise OK.
