NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- It's not clear what Anthony Weiner will do next to earn a living after spending his entire adult life working in politics.
On Thursday during his resignation statement, Weiner already seemed eager to jump into something new.
"Now I will be looking for other ways to contribute my talents," Weiner said.
However, Richard Auletta, a crisis communications and public relations expert, said Weiner would help himself to just disappear for a while.
"I think there's opportunities out there, but it's way too early," Auletta told CBS 2's Dave Carlin.
But can Weiner, a career politician from a middle class background, afford to go without a job for very long? Other disgraced politicians had other outlets available to them. Ex-New York Governor Eliot Spitzer had family money to buy him both time and expert advice to rehab his image.
Auletta said Weiner's next job should be low key and out of the public eye.
"The best thing that could happen to him would be to find something low profile where he could really get back on his feet and do something productive," he said.
So what are the possibilities for Weiner?
"One of the things that they could think about would be as an educator, showing people by example where you went wrong, how the power made you feel invincible that you could get away with anything. So that might be a way to go," Auletta said.
New Yorkers also chimed into the conversation with their own ideas.
"Get a TV show," one woman said.
"He should be a lobbyist," Jay Sewani said.
Others said that Weiner should consider selling hot dogs on 42nd Street or become a porn star.
