DWI Checkpoints Appear Near Yankee Stadium
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Some Yankees fans were surprised to find four police DWI checkpoints set up in the vicinity of Yankee Stadium in the Bronx Friday night, snarling traffic as fans tried to make their way home.
As 1010 WINS' Gene Michaels reported, the checkpoints were documented in a recent New York Post report, and police said they were part of a citywide crackdown on drunken driving and were not aimed at Yankees fans.
People who talked to Michaels said they had never seen any such thing in the area before. Christina, a Yankees fan, was right by the stadium Sunday.

"I live in New Jersey, so I know DUI checkpoints are there a lot as well. I don't know anything about what goes on around here," she said.
Christina said she doesn't ever drive to the game.
"I take the train and the subway," she said. And she said while she drives when she gets home to the train station, she does not drink and drive.
Danny, who was visiting a bar near the stadium, was supportive of the checkpoints – with some doubts.
"I think it's kind of poaching on people, but on the same token, it's definitely a good thing – anything to stop drunk driving is a good thing," he said.
Another man, Matt, said he is not a fan of DWI checkpoints at all.
"It seems like it's a little iffy in my mind," he said.
But Matt said he uses mass transit to get to the games, and he never drinks and drives.
The checkpoints were set up on the Edward L. Grant Highway at University Avenue; 146th Street and Grand Concourse; and in Manhattan at 155th Street near the Macombs Dam Bridge and on 179th Street, police told the New York Post.
