Dog Goes Missing After Helping Family Escape From House Fire In Yorktown Heights

YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A Westchester County family needs your help to find a special family pet.

Nearly a week after the Eliseo house burned down, the dog that saved their lives is still missing.

Gilio Eliseo told CBS 2's Alice Gainer on Friday that "Nero," the family dog, is like his son, and he wants his family back together.

On Sunday, flames tore through his Yorktown Heights home, burning it to the ground.

Eliseo said Nero saved his family.

"Without him, I'd be burying my wife and daughter."

The Newfoundland started barking at the sight of flames, waking up the family. When the smoke cleared, the family was safe -- but the dog was gone.

Now, a sign is posted where the home once stood, asking anyone who has seen Nero to come forward.

The Eliseos are posting flyers and using Facebook to get the word out about a dog that has helped so many people.

Two reported sightings of the dog was giving the family hope.

Until he is found, the family said it is remembering the happy times with Nero and keep his photo close to their hearts.
