JERSEY CITY, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Seniors at Dickinson High School in New Jersey got a big prom surprise from New York Giants Punter Steve Weatherford.

"I am so pumped to go to prom with you this year," the pro athlete said in part of a video shown to the students on Tuesday.

Weatherford announced the school was chosen for his second annual Project Prom, an essay contest that asks the students to write about taking a stand against bullying, 1010 WINS' Rebecca Granet reported.

Five winners will be chosen and receive an all-inclusive prom evening. But all of the senior promgoers will get to party with Weatherford on the big day.

The students' senior adviser John Barth said they can't wait.

"Of course you've got all the girls going 'Oh my God, ahhh,'" he said. "You know, so there's this sense of excitement that was in the air."

Barth said he expects some heart-felt essays to be written.

"It's pure, it's honest and you're gonna get kids who really want to offer solutions to bullying," he said.

One senior said she's grateful her school was chosen.

"I know a lot of kids here can't afford prom and it's a really good way to get the word out about bullying," she said.

The winners of the essay contest will be announced on April 2.
