Devils' Martin Brodeur Not So Thrilled With Playing Conditions At MSG

NEW YORK (WFAN) -- Lifelong Devils goalie Martin Brodeur likes the cross-river rival Rangers about as much as you'd expect.

This weekend we also learned he isn't a big fan of New York City.

But wait, there's more.

After New Jersey's 3-2 win Wednesday night to even up the Eastern Conference finals at one game apiece, Brodeur let it be known that he doesn't love the playing conditions at Madison Square Garden.

"It's a tough place to play," Brodeur said. "There's so many bad bounces. The ice is not good, the boards are awful, and the glass makes crazy bounces everywhere."

But the appeal of "The World's Most Famous Arena" wasn't totally lost on the 40-year-old veteran.

"It's a great place to play playoff hockey," he said of the atmosphere at MSG.

As for his questionable comments after Game 1? The Devils insisted Brodeur was obviously not serious when he said New Jersey "might be able to hurt a few guys (by) hitting one-timers in the foot and their head or something," and the goalie would never advocate shooting to injure an opponent.

"Obviously, those were not the intent of his comments at all," Devils assistant director of communications Pete Albietz said before Game 2. "He said he would never even think like that. It was just an off-the-cuff comment."
