Debate Over 91st Street Marine Transfer Station Heats Up

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Bill Thompson and Christine Quinn are crossing swords over the 91st Street Marine Transfer Station.

The former city comptroller said the East Side location is unacceptable for children and families. He wants the project to stop immediately, 1010 WINS' Stan Brooks reported.

City Council Speaker Quinn disagreed and said the current placement of transfer stations is unfair to residents of low income neighborhoods.

"We need to recognize that every neighborhood needs to do its fair share in dealing with New York City's garbage. We also need to realize that to get less trucks on the street we need to utilize the river and barges and Marine Transfer station," she said.

Debate Brews Over East Side Transfer Station

Bill de Blasio and John Liu have weighed in on the issue in support of the transfer station.
