Man Dead, Woman Injured After Shooting Inside Upper Manhattan Restaurant

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – Two people were shot inside a restaurant early this morning in Upper Manhattan.

Police said there was a dispute around 5 a.m. at Floridita Restaurant near 10th Avenue and 207th Street in the Inwood neighborhood.

One man allegedly pulled out a gun and shot another in the torso.

"There's blood on the floor. One person pushed another, or tapped another," Arelia Taveras, of the Latino Restaurant Association, told CBS2's Nick Caloway. "It was a tap. It wasn't even like a push or a shove. I don't understand how a push or a shove could lead to a homicide."

A woman, believed to be an innocent bystander, was also shot in the leg.

Both victims were rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital, where the man was pronounced dead.

Taveras, who's friends with the owners, said after hours they pat down every customer for weapons.

"He hid the gun somewhere," she said.

Police continue to search for the shooter, but have not released a description of the suspect.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or 1-888-57-PISTA (74782) for Spanish. You can also submit a tip via the Crime Stoppers website, by tweeting @NYPDTips or by texting 274637.
