De Blasio Touts Turnaround At Boys And Girls High School
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A turnaround is happening at Boys and Girls High School, one of the city's poorest-performing schools, Mayor Bill de Blasio said Tuesday.
Speaking at the Brooklyn high school, de Blasio touted its new principal and improved oversight, WCBS 880's Marla Diamond reported.
"Attendance is rising," de Blasio said. "There are new AP (advanced placement) classes available for the first time. The faculty is creating a student government, creating clubs, building school spirit."

The mayor trumpeted the accomplishments as he's asking lawmakers for more money for schools.
"The buck stops with me," de Blasio said. "That is the power of the mayoral-control idea."
Charter school advocates are calling for a state takeover of failing city schools, which Gov. Andrew Cuomo supports.
