De Blasio To New Yorkers: Give Back This Thanksgiving
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Mayor-elect Bill de Blasio, who was spending his Thanksgiving with family in Connecticut, reminded New Yorkers to give back to the less fortunate this holiday.
As WCBS 880's Jim Smith reported Thursday, de Blasio was at his cousin's house for Thanksgiving. But he was nowhere near the kitchen.

"I can confirm I will not be cooking," he said. "It would endanger the Thanksgiving experience for my family members. I will not do that."
But joking aside, de Blasio noted that not everyone will have a happy Thanksgiving. He said he has put a fight against hunger and poverty on the to-do list for his incoming administration.
"We have to address the suffering; the challenges that so many New Yorkers are facing," he said.
The mayor-elect also urged New Yorkers with a little extra to donate to food pantries.
On Wednesday, de Blasio and his wife Chirlane McCray volunteered at the Bed-Stuy Campaign Against Hunger to hand out food ahead of Thanksgiving.
The city's incoming first couple greeted people and handed out turkeys, milk and other food at the Fulton Street facility.
"Forty-six percent of New Yorkers at or near the poverty level right now. Well, it's quite evident today, what that means today in human terms," de Blasio said Wednesday. "One food pantry, one neighborhood in the city, 500 people have already been served."
