DA: We're In Plea Talks With Jets' Edwards
NEW YORK (AP) — Prosecutors say they are discussing the possibility of a plea deal in New York Jets wide receiver Braylon Edwards' drunken-driving case, but it's not yet clear whether anything will result.
Edwards said nothing during a brief appearance Tuesday in a Manhattan court. Defense lawyer Peter Frankel says he's talking with prosecutors, but, for now, he's preparing to file paperwork to keep fighting the charges.
Prosecutors say Edwards had a blood-alcohol level twice the legal limit after being pulled over in September. He was already on probation after pleading no contest to aggravated disorderly conduct in a dustup outside a Cleveland nightclub.
Edwards later apologized to teammates, fans and others for the New York arrest. He's due back in court Jan. 11.
