Cory Booker To Decide Mid-Month On Run For Governor

NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) - Mid-December is when Democratic Newark Mayor Cory Booker when we should expect a decision on whether he'll challenge Republican Gov. Chris Christie.

"That's not something that should be made quickly. It should be made with sober, deliberative thought about how I can best serve and hopefully the voters might support me," Booker said.

"To an extent, I can understand that. I mean, it's a big decision, obviously. It's, on the hand, seems, from the outside, like he should have all the information he would need," John Weingart, the associate director of the Eagleton Institute of Politics at Rutgers University, told WCBS 880 reporter Levon Putney.

"Those who would like to run if he doesn't run want to get started if that's going to happen," he said.

"But there are a lot of people who are qualified to run for governor in the state of New Jersey," said Booker.

So Booker is urging any interested Democrats to run.

Some have also speculated about the possibility of Booker seeking U.S. Sen. Frank Lautenberg's seat.

Booker is currently trying to live a week on a food stamp budget.
