The 23-year-old entered the Friends of Freddie Pet Rescue Tuesday and asked staff if the 6-to-8-weeks-old puppy had been installed with a microchip that tracks its location, police said.

The employees told Geiger that the puppy had no such microchip, police said.

The next day, authorities said a store employee called police to report the store's front door was smashed and the Rottweiler was
missing.

Police said they arrested Geiger Thursday at his Middle Island home with the dog in his possession.

Geiger is due in court on Friday.
