Complaint: Money Motivated Slaying Of Rockland County Grandmother

NEW CITY, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A court document Thursday said money was the motive in the slaying of a popular Rockland County widow and grandmother whose daughter has been charged with her murder.

Peggy Nadell, 81, was killed in her Valley Cottage home back in January.

A criminal complaint made public Thursday alleges her daughter-in-law, Diana Nadell, 50, of Cutler Bay, Florida, was after part of a $4 million estate.

The complaint said she lured her mother-in-law to the door with a phone call before she was killed.

A complaint against a codefendant, Andrea Benson, 25, said she agreed to help with the killing in exchange for money.

Benson and Diana Nadell face murder and conspiracy charges. Two others, Tanisha Joyner, 26, and Elita Grant, 24, also face conspiracy charges.

Benson and Joyner are from Washington, D.C. Grant is from East Long Beach, Calif. All four are awaiting extradition to New York.

The murder left neighbors shaken.

The victim was well known in the halls of local government buildings where many people referred to her as a Democratic party activist with a big heart. The police chief personally notified top town officials of the crime.
