"$9,600 for a company hiring a newly returning veteran who is much more likely to be unemployed because those unemployment rates are 12 percent or higher," said Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Connecticut), a member of the Armed Services Committee.
Blumenthal says companies who've signed on will provide veterans with the training they need.
He says these men and women have demonstrated they have the discipline and ability and now back home they need the jobs.
Sen. Charles Schumer (D-New York) was a cosponsor of the Hire Heroes Act, which passed the Senate on Thursday, 94-1.
