2 Killed When Vehicle Overturns On Route 3 In Clifton, NJ
CLIFTON, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Two people have been killed and three others wounded in a single-vehicle crash early Friday morning in Clifton, according to police.
A 2007 Toyota Camry went out of control around 3:30 a.m. on Route 3 westbound near Route 46 and the Valley Road exit.
The car ran off the road, crashed into a telephone pole, overturned and landed on its roof in front of a storage facility, police said. Debris from the vehicle could be seen strewn across the road.
Two passengers, a 21-year-old woman from East Orange and a 21-year-old woman from Elizabeth, were ejected from the vehicle and killed, police said.
The 20-year-old driver and two other passengers suffered non-life threatening injuries and were taken to St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center.
It's still unclear why the car lost control. The identities of the victims have not been released.
For a time, Route 3 westbound was closed, but it has since reopened. The Valley Road ramp remains closed, which is causing some delays along Route 3 as police continue to investigate.
