He has written five biographical songs about the former New York Mets catcher.

"It's no fun getting beat up. My knees are killing me," are the lyrics to one.

"Sometimes I think the only thing that keeps me going is coffee and Advil," goes another one.

"But you know it's about him, but romanticized," Paterson told WCBS 880 reporter Peter Haskell. "We wanted a mix of kind of earnest reflection and also humor."

He's hoping to gain some new classical music fans.

"Maybe they would actually end up liking it for what it is if they had fun," said Paterson.

The songs were actually written while Piazza was still playing, but will be performed at the Galapagos Art Space at 16 Main Street in Brooklyn tonight at 7.

Why Mike Piazza though? The lyricist had a crush on him.
