Charlie Sheen: Nope, I Didn't Buy Lawrence Taylor's Super Bowl Ring

NEW YORK (WFAN) -- So much for those "Winning!" headlines we had planned.

Charlie Sheen said Friday he had nothing to do with the purchase of Lawrence Taylor's Super Bowl XXV ring.

The Giants legend's hardware was sold by his son at auction last week for a whopping $230,401. Taylor's longtime business manager, Mark Lepselter, told FoxSports.com's Jay Glazer that they were informed Sheen was the winning bidder.

Glazer unsuccessfully attempted to confirm the matter with the controversial actor Thursday.

On Friday, Sheen broke his silence when he tweeted: "RE: Lawrence Taylor's Ring: As much as I would be honored to own such an important artifact... I had nothing to do with the acquisition."

So the high bidder will remain a mystery for now. Also officially ruled out was Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora, who fell way short of Saturday's pledge to buy the ring if he hit 500,000 followers -- down from his original goal of 1 million -- on Twitter.

Sheen, famous for his roles in "Major League" and "Two and a Half Men," once owned the ball that went through Red Sox first baseman Bill Buckner's legs in Game 6 of the 1986 World Series.
