Bronx Iraq Veteran Talks About Her Service Ahead Of Veterans Day
NEW YORK (WCBS 880) - Zana Edmonds was leaving the shower in Iraq in 2004 when a mortar landed nearby.

"I remember, it was funny, I was thinking 'God, please don't take me in the bathroom,'" she said.
She was knocked unconscious and lost her hearing for two weeks.
The 34-year-old from the Bronx suffers from traumatic brain injury and post traumatic stress disorder. She is still prone to anger and avoids crowds.
Her memory lapses persist.
"I write down everything. Everything has to be written. If not, it's going to be forgotten. So, it's very tedious now," she told WCBS 880 reporter Peter Haskell.
She writes everything down in a book she calls her Bible.
"This has go shopping, shopping list, every appointment I have," she said.
This Veterans Day, Edmonds says think about those who have served.
"You leave your families. You're going to a different countries. You're risking your life," she said. "For me, Veterans Day is the world telling me thank you for what I've done."
But she admits it wasn't always that way.
"I didn't even know what Veterans Day was when I was younger," she said.
Veterans Day is November 11.
