NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police have arrested a man who they said intentionally struck a victim with his car in a hit-and-run in the Bronx.

Josue Gago was arrested and charged with attempted murder on Thursday, police said.

The incident happened on Sept. 19.

Gago was behind the wheel of a black Ford Taurus with Pennsylvania plates when he struck a 26-year-old man who was crossing Union Avenue at East 155th Street, according to police.

Gago, 25, was involved in a dispute with the victim earlier that day and intentionally ran him down, police said.

Both Gago and the victim have a relationship with the same woman, sources told CBS2. Gago is the woman's ex-boyfriend, the victim is her new boyfriend, sources said.

The victim was rushed to Lincoln Hospital in critical condition.
