Sources: Explosive Device Detonates Inside Moving Car In The Bronx

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police said two aerosol cans with a detonator exploded in a moving car in the Bronx Wednesday evening, and it was not believed to be an accident.

The two occupants of the car escaped without injury.

Around 7:10 p.m., police were called to Mahan and Roberts avenues in the Pelham Bay section of the Bronx for a report of an explosion, police sources told CBS2.

They found two aerosol cans under the wheel well, and one had a detonator, sources said.

One of the devices detonated when the car was in motion sources said.

A 24-year-old man was driving at the time, and a 28-year-old woman was in the car as a passenger, sources said. Neither was injured.

The explosion deployed the car's airbag, sources said.

The car was described as red sedan with Ohio license plates.

Late Wednesday, there had been no arrests and the investigation was ongoing.
