'Broadway Barks' For Homeless Pets In Manhattan's Famed Shubert Alley

New York (CBSNewYork)  Stars of the Great White Way join animal lovers in Broadway's famed Shubert Alley on Saturday, July 14, 2012 for the 14th Annual Broadway Barks hosted by Mary Tyler Moore and Bernadette Peters.

Dozens of dogs and cats from 27 New York City-area animal shelters and rescue organizations will be available for adoption.  In addition, Broadway Barks will also feature an auction of celebrity-autographed memorabilia, proceeds from which will benefit partipating rescue groups.

Ms. Moore and Ms. Peters will be joined by Broadway stars of this season, including  2012 Tony winner Audra McDonald (Porgy and Bess), 2012 Tony winner Steve Kazee (Once), Angela Lansbury (The Best Man) , Linda Lavin (The Lyons), Tracie Bennett (End of the Rainbow),  as well as the casts of Ghost, Anything Goes, The Book of Mormon, and Wicked among others.

Broadway Barks is presented by Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS in conjunction with the ASPCA® and the Mayor's Alliance for New York City's Animals, and runs rain or shine in Shubert Alley in the heart of the Broadway Theater District (located between 44th and 45th Streets, between Broadway and Eighth Avenues). The festivities began at 3:30 p.m.; celebrity presentations of pets from animal shelters citywide will take place from 5-6:30 p.m.
