Bridge Replacement Sets L.I. Community Abuzz
THOMASTON, NY (WCBS 880) - Thomaston residents want the new Colonial Road bridge planned by the Long Island Rail Road, but Mayor Robert Stern says they don't want the track expansion and the train noise that's sure to follow.

"That bridge is a hazard. It ought to be changed. That's the discussion. That's my interest," Stern told WCBS 880 Long Island Bureau Chief Mike Xirinachs.
Xirinachs added, "but let's not destroy the neighborhood in the process?"
Stern replied, "but that's something new that they've added."
The LIRR, meantime, calls the $36-million project necessary to improve service along the Port Washington line. The mayor says it should not be at the expense of the community.
