Brick Walkway Around Statue Of Liberty Damaged From Sandy
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The Statue of Liberty stood up against Superstorm Sandy and came out on the winning side.
Lady Liberty herself is in tact and unharmed, but the brick walkway around Liberty Island sustained some damage, CBS 2 reported.
It appeared hundreds of bricks picked up and thrown around by the wind. Wooden docks stationed around the island have also been ripped apart.
Nearby Ellis Island seemed to make it through the storm relatively unharmed.
The crown of the Statue of Liberty was just reopened to the public last weekend after a year of renovations.
Liberty Island is now closed.
