Bill Would Make Selling Heroin To Those Under 14 A Felony In New York
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- With the heroin epidemic hitting Long Island harder than ever, state Sen. Jack Martins said now is the time for stiffer penalties for those convicted of selling drugs to young people.
As WCBS 880's Sophia Hall reported, Sen. Martins' bill would make selling heroin and other drugs to those under 14 a felony, punishable of up to 20 years in prison.

"There has to be a greater penalty when it comes to adults targeting children," the lawmaker said. "When they're going into our middle schools the penalties have to be more significant because they're targeting them on purpose."
The New York Senate passed Martins' legislation this week.
