Best Things To Do In NYC On Labor Day Weekend

The U.S. Open and Electric Zoo are coming to NYC this weekend, but you're probably out of luck if you don't have tickets yet. Don't fret though! New York City has Labor Day Weekend activities galore across the five boroughs. By Adrienne Smith.

Brooklyn Bridge Park's pop-up pool burst onto the scene this June and closes after Monday, September 1. The pool is 3.5 feet deep and open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day, offering 45-minute slots for splashing around. Head to Brooklyn Heights for one last summer dip, all while taking in the Manhattan skyline. Lizzmonade Brooklyn serves up inventive lemonades (try the sweet basil and cucumber) and light fare if you get hungry. Once the pool closes, enjoy the sangria, craft beer and wine on tap.

NYC Unicycle Festival

Takes Place Friday, August 29 through Sunday, August 31

Every year, unicyclers of all shapes and sizes flock to New York City for the annual three-day festival. On Friday, all unicyclers are welcome to join a 13-mile ride through Brooklyn that includes a trip over the Brooklyn Bridge Park and a stop at Grand Army Plaza. On Saturday and Sunday, festival goers can take the ferry to Governor's Island to partake in – or just observe – unicycle races, exhibitions and games like basketball and hockey.

Takes place Saturday, August 30 from 2-9 p.m.

This free dance party and artisan market takes place each month of the summer. The Harlem festival caps off with The Last Dance on Labor Day Weekend in Riverside Park South. Bring friends and family Saturday, August 30 to help celebrate music, culture and commerce. You'll dance to live jazz and funk music, browse jewelry and vintage stalls, and partake in workshops and family-friendly activities.

The Coney Island fireworks are a classic New York summer staple. The show takes place each Friday night of the summer, ending on Friday, August 29th. Typically, the fireworks start around 9:30 p.m. You'll have plenty of time to grab a Nathan's hot dog (or two), ride the Coney Island Cyclone and stroll the boardwalk before heading to the Coney Island beach.

Farm-to-table restaurant Back Forty is hosting a crab boil both Friday, August 29 and Saturday, August 30. The feast comes out to $74 - $55 plus gratuity and tax – and requires that you buy tickets ahead of time. Park yourself at the newspaper covered communal tables and dig into piles of spiced crabs, stone ground cornbread, corn on the cob, boiled potatoes, string beans and pitchers of cold beer. If you can stomach it, summer fruit cobblers are passed around for dessert.
