Just in time for Valentine's Day, we present our five favorite stores for lingerie in New York City. You're sure to find something slinky and perfect for the lover in your life. By Jessica Allen.
A self-described "candy store for your body," Brooklyn Fox specializes in slinky, sexy underthings that will make you "feel like a vixen." Fit specialists are on hand to make sure everything hangs and rests where it's supposed to, regardless of whether you're an AA or a G cup, and they'll guide you in the event you don't know what you, or your sweetie, would prefer. The Williamsburg store offers a wide selection of lounge wear, undergarments, hosiery, swimwear, and shapewear/problem solvers.
A lingerie store with a French name? Ma oui! The philosophy behind this Union Square store is best summarized as "why save lingerie for special occasions?," and this empowering motto extends to the knowledgeable salespeople too. As you try on or browse the lingerie by well-known and in-house designers (including many from France), you'll likely get bottled water to sip and chocolate to nibble. We really love the bridal selection, with its emphasis on revamping the tradition of ensuring that brides-to-be possess a well-stocked trousseau.
The New York flagship of a beloved global brand, Kiki de Montparnasse's store in Soho has everything you could possibly want from a lingerie shop: patient salespeople, roomy dressing rooms, and, of course, a ginormous selection of beautiful wearables. You'll find slips and bras and thongs here, sure, but you'll also find fragrance, jewelry, objets d'art, and bath products. If you're looking to add a little romance and a little refinement to your life, or to your sweetheart's life, you've come to the right spot.
La Petite Coquette means "the little flirt," but you'll be more than a little flirty when wearing, or giving, an item from this Greenwich Village shop. Known for their body-positive customer service, the salespeople will have your shirt off and a fitting bra on you before you can sputter "but I'm only looking." That's a good thing: as the folks here live to prevent breasts from being held captive by awkward, misshapen, lumpy brassieres. Lingerie newbies might want to check out the excellent buying guide on the store's website before heading out to shop.
Why, yes, Sugar Cookies, a lingerie boutique in Chelsea, does serve its patrons actual sugar cookies, along with offering a dose of deliciously curated bras, panties, slips, sexy pajamas, and other soft wonderful things you'll want to touch and feel from established European and New York-based designers like La Perla, Mimi Holliday, and Cosabella. It's down home without being, well, down home—instead the atmosphere is intimate and sensual. Check out the "Naughty" section for inspiration.
