This Lower East Side biergarten serves beer imported from Germany alongside German comfort food. Long communal tables are both inside and on the back patio, making it easy to grab an entire table for six to 10 people. If the weather permits, try to get a table outside. The covered patio is the perfect spot to drink a liter of Hofbrau and eat a pork schnitzel ($17) with your friends.

The more the merrier at Sammy's Roumanian Steakhouse. This Lower East Side joint roars through nightly live music in an old-school basement restaurant. While the lively crowd and music is Sammy's main draw, the old-school Jewish food is a solid meal too. The chicken liver, prepared tableside, has caramelized onions and chopped turnips stirred in. Smear some on a slice of rye for a hearty appetizer. And bring all your friends; dinner at Sammy's is a celebration.

Pio Pio has sprung up in numerous locations across New York City, with each restaurant offering a different menu and atmosphere. The Peruvian restaurant's Hell's Kitchen location boasts a 40-foot bar and a two-floor dining room – perfect for a big group. Pio Pio is well known for its rotisserie chicken; order for the group and get the Matador Combo for $38. The dish comes with a whole rotisserie chicken, yellow rice, beans, tostones, salchipapa and avocado salad.

The Southern vibe at Brooklyn Star is apparent everywhere. The menu revolves around Southern classics like buttermilk biscuits and country-fried steak. If you're particularly hungry, try the molasses brined pork chop with braised collars and smoked and pickled onion rings. The Williamsburg restaurant is divided into two rooms: an up-front bar with high tables and food service, and a spacious dining room in the back. Large communal tables in the dining room allow for large sit-down groups, while the bar's high tables are perfect for a more casual crowd.

Eataly's Birreria is a rooftop restaurant and brewery offering seasonal cask ales and homey dishes. The space's retractable roof and abundance of tables ensures Birreria stays open year round. Try any of the house made sausages ($23) or the beer and apricot braised pork shoulder ($23). Group reservations for 13-30 are available, with a family-style prix fixe meal.
