Benefit Concert Held To Support Filipino Communities Recovering From Typhoon Haiyan

NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) -- Musical superstars performed at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday night, in support of Filipinos who are still working to piece their lives back together in the aftermath of typhoon Haiyan.

Chart toppers Great Big World, Plain White T's, and Jennifer Hudson were among the big names who entertained the packed Madison Square Garden theater.

The concert was organized to benefit Pinoy Relief a fund created to help smaller villages like Guiuan which aren't receiving the aid and attention of bigger communities.

Founders said that Pinoy Relief has rebuilt classrooms and new homes, and replaced fishing boat for local fishermen, CBS 2 reported.

Fishing and agriculture are a main source of income for the majority of the families in the region.
