Ben Carson To Endorse Donald Trump In GOP Presidential Race
MIAMI (CBSNewYork) -- Retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson on Thursday was to endorse Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump, less than a week after officially suspending his own presidential campaign.
CBS News confirmed Thursday that Carson was to endorse Trump, ahead of a debate in Miami with Trump's three remaining contenders – U.S. Sens. Marco Rubio (R-Florida) and Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Ohio Gov. John Kasich.
Trump said at the debate that Carson would announce the endorsement Friday morning.
Carson said in a statement on Wednesday of last week that he saw "no path forward'' to the nomination for himself.
"I do not see a political path forward in light of last evening's Super Tuesday primary results," Carson wrote in a statement on his website. "However, this grassroots movement on behalf of 'We the People' will continue. Along with millions of patriots who have supported my campaign for President, I remain committed to Saving America for Future Generations."
Politico reported Carson will head up a non-partisan group aimed at getting Christian voters to the polls.
