4 Police Officers, 1 Civilian Arrested After NJ Bar Fight
NORTH ARLINGTON, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- The Bergen County Prosecutor's Office announced the Monday arrest of four police officers and one civilian following an investigation into an alleged fight outside a New Jersey bar in October.
According to the prosecutor's office, authorities received reports that a number of off-duty Belleville police officers were involved in a large physical altercation with civilians around 1 a.m the morning of Oct. 21.
The altercation began inside the bar, but continued outside after all parties involved were led out by security, according to authorities.
The scuffle continued until police officers from Lyndhurst and North Arlington arrived and took control of the situation.
As a result of the altercation, one civilian was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center for minor injuries. They were later released.
At the time of the incident, no criminal charges were filed against any person involved.
As a result of the investigation, it was revealed that one of the police officers allegedly provided false information to a responding Lyndhurst police officer.
Police Officers John Clarizio, Marco Zarfino, Jesse McKeough, and Giovanni Casillo are each charged with one count of simple assault. Clarizio, who allegedly lied to responding officers, is facing an additional count of hindering apprehension.
The civilian, Vasilios Theofanidis, also faces one count of simple assault.
All five men are scheduled to appear in Bergen County Court December 14th.
