Beautiful Weekend Ahead As Summer Returns
After what seemed like a week of soaking rains and chilly, fall-like temperatures, clear skies and low humidity made a very welcome return to the tri-state Friday, prefacing a weekend that looks to be mostly sunny, but increasingly steamy.
"Summer is gonna roar back," CBS 2 Meteorologist John Elliott said Thursday. "We've got beautiful conditions, you just wanna be outside, you wanna do something. Maybe a little fishing, maybe a hike, maybe a run, maybe some tennis in the Bronx, maybe some football tonight at the Meadowlands!"
Elliott said the refreshingly cool temperatures won't stay too cool for too long, but the beautiful skies are here to stay. High pressure is in control of the region bringing us warmer temperatures into the weekend and plenty of sun throughout.
If you're headed to the beach this weekend, Elliott is calling for sunny skies both days, with temperatures on Saturday in the upper-70s to low-80s. Sunday will be slightly warmer, with temperatures hovering in the mid-80s.
"Our coast this weekend will be very nice! Nice and warm, and the warmest day will be Sunday. Ocean temperatures between 71 and 77; but don't forget there's a moderate risk of rip currents for the south-facing beaches of Long Island, and we could see a better bet for those rip currents come Saturday or Sunday."
If you're staying in the city Sunday, you'll see much warmer temperatures that could creep into the low-90s. That pattern will continue into the new work week, bringing with it a reminder that summer is far from over.
