The Yankees' once-10-game lead is now down to 3 1/2 with a little over a month of baseball left. Is it time to panic? Maybe, especially with the red hot O's coming to town and A-Rod and Tex on the shelf. As hard as it's to believe the Yankees could use some help in the lineup. Well, that bat may just be out there in the form of Joe Mauer. The All-World catcher cleared waivers yesterday, and Craig thinks the Yanks should jump all over him.
Mauer, a guy who has battled injuries in the past is looking like he is back to his old form batting over 300 this season. This would definitely be a move that the Pinstripes would normally make. However, the team wants to cut back on its costs and Mauer would simply not fit it. With that being said, Craig still thinks this a move the Bombers need to make.
While a trade for a premier catcher seems like a good idea in theory, Boomer wonders why on earth the Twins would trade a home grown star player. Not only that, Mauer is a Midwest guy and may not want to play in the bright lights of the Big Apple. Craig is not buying that. Why would a player in his prime not want to be on a team that can contend for a ring year in year out?
So should the Yanks pursue the former batting champ?
