Test out the Hong Kong Fried Chicken Sandwich over at Hey Hey Canteen in Brooklyn. Kay Ch'ien is whipping up some elevated Asian comfort food dishes like this little diddy. Bite into a tamari palm sugar-glazed chicken breast with crispy ramen crust, green mango and radish pickles, and umami aioli on a bao bun. This take on traditional Cantonese street food will leave you ordering one to-go for later.

The gourmet sandwiches at Num Pang are spot on. One of our favorites is definitely the Coconut Tiger Shrimp sandwich. It comes with cucumber, pickled carrots, cilantro, and chili mayo on a toasted semolina or quinoa baguette (both baked fresh daily). Pair it with a side of raw kale and apple salad with shredded carrots, black sesame seeds, and toasted sesame vinaigrette and you've got yourself one tasty lunch. The watermelon and tomato salad is another hidden gem from this Cambodian-inspired sandwich shop.

You may not think of a place called Meat Hook Sandwich as having one of the best vegetarian sandwiches in NYC, but it certainly does. Stop in for their Vegetarian, that's made simply with every vegetable they have at the moment. The twist? This massive sandwich is piled high with veggies that are pickled, fried, and raw, giving it nice texture and flavor. You can't beat the sweet spread made from fried beets, parsnips, and carrots that's lathered onto a fresh kaiser roll. We promise you won't miss the meat in this one. Grab a napkin and go to town.
Lido Kosher Deli

If you're hitting the beach, then definitely make sure to grab a pastrami sandwich from the Lido Kosher Deli food truck. It's parked over at the Long Beach Boardwalk and it's simply pastrami piled high between two slices of rye (with mustard, of course.) The meat is thinly-cut and warm, allowing it to coat with the mustard perfectly between two slices of earthy bread. This place has been serving up sandwiches for more than 60 years – so they definitely know what they're doing. Grab a side of chips and a soda and take your lunch to-go. The ocean is waiting!
