According to its website, the biscuits at Clinton Street Baking Co. are made with 7 parts love, 2 parts butter, and 1 part "everything else." The Buttermilk Biscuit Sandwich piles scrambled eggs, cheddar cheese, and tomato jam on top of a split-open biscuit. Bacon is an optional but highly welcome addition. For the best of both worlds, ask a friend to come with and order the pancakes, considered by many to be the best in the city, or one of the eggs benedict specials.

Bklyn Larder, a "cheese and provisions shop," serves one of the city's best breakfast sandwiches: a cheddar and scallion frittata on a freshly made buttermilk biscuit. For just a $1.25 more, you can add smokehouse bacon or Berkshire ham. Go ahead and splurge. Be sure to stock up on housemade almond butter, peanut brittle, and graham crackers, among other delectables. You just might work up an appetite for another sandwich.

"Perfect" is built into the name of this savory sandwich sold at Dominique Ansel Bakery in Soho, home to the Cronut. The two-bite wonder consists of eggs, herbs, and Gruyère cheese, between two halves of a mini brioche bun. While you're there, you can oogle away at the sweets on offer, from the aforementioned Cronut (a donut-croissant hybrid) to the DKA (caramelized layers of bread) to tarts to cake that's almost too pretty to eat. Almost.

Almost immediately upon entering Maialino, an updated Roman-style trattoria inside the Gramercy Park Hotel, you'll see the bakery section, always a good sign when it comes to breakfast sandwiches. The one here isn't cheap ($16), but it is delicious, really, really, really delicious. The Porchetta Sandwich includes a fried egg, juicy roast pork, and a tender ciabatta roll. You may also elect to order some pastries with your sandwich, including a pumpkin cranberry scone or moist olive oil muffin.

Naturally, a restaurant that's regularly named to lists of best sandwiches in New York would also make a more-than-worthwhile breakfast sandwich, and indeed the versions on offer at Court Street Grocers do not disappoint. Note we said "versions." The Mr. Victor comes with scrambled eggs, cheddar, arugula, and hickory smoked sausage on ciabatta, while the Pork Roll (pictured) offers scrambled eggs, American cheese, and a pork roll on white bread.
