$20K Reward Offered For Information After Dog Left To Die In Suitcase In Bronx

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - Animal advocates are offering a $20,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the person responsible for a dog left to die in a suitcase in the Bronx.

ASPCA CEO Matt Bershadker hopes the money will lead to the arrest and conviction after someone left the brown pit bull mix outside the Melrose Houses.

"We know that this dog was starved, deprived of food and water, it's approximately 3 years old and he was abandoned or left at about 1 o'clock on Thursday," he told WCBS 880's Monica Miller.

Bershadker said the NYPD officers on duty immediately transferred the dog to the care of the ASPCA and is now receiving life-saving treatment.

"And we're collecting the forensic evidence at the New York City Police Department and the Bronx DA will need to prosecute this case," he said.

Anyone with information about who dumped the dog was asked to call the NYPD Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS, log onto the Crime Stoppers website, or text tips to 274637 (CRIMES) and enter TIP577.
