Two Men Charged With Criminal Trespass For Trying To Climb Williamsburg Bridge

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Two men were arrested early Wednesday morning after being spotted trying to climb the Williamsburg Bridge.

Both 22-year-old James Stafford, of Woodstock, Conn., and 25-year-old Brice Farrell, of Damsascus, MD were charged with criminal trespass.

Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said Emergency Service officers went and got the men after Aviation Unit officers on a routine sky patrol saw them trying to navigate the superstructure around 3 a.m.

According to Kelly, the men were so-called urban explorers and told police they were just trying to take pictures.

"We don't see anything in terms of attempted damage to the bridge," Kelly told reporters, including WCBS 880's Rich Lamb.

Kelly said the officers sent to rescue the men were put at risk and in danger while sending a warning to potential copycats.

"We would certainly urge other people not to do this," Kelly said.
