2 Fatally Shot In Newark

NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) – Police in Newark are investigating what they say appears to be two unrelated shootings overnight.

The victims have been identified as Tariq Romane, 21, and Rahmel Johnson, 20, both of Newark.

Police say Johnson was fatally shot at 5:34 p.m. Monday in the vicinity of 62 Broome Street.

About two hours later, police were called to North 6th Street where they say they found Romane with multiple gunshot wounds.  Romane was transported to University Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

"At this stage of the investigation it appears the two shootings are unrelated,'' said Chief Anthony Ambrose, of the Essex County Prosecutor's Office.

No suspects have been arrested in connection with either case and no motives have been determined.
