FBI timing

A week to election day, one of Hillary Clinton’s closest aides is responding for the first time to the FBI search for emails that may have gone through Clinton’s private servers. FBI director James Comey is facing relentless criticism for notifying Congress about the review less than two weeks before the election, and President Obama has now weighed in.

Obamacare costs

Open enrollment for the Affordable Care Act begins today. Problems with the law and issues with insurers pulling out of markets mean consumers could face significant rate hikes in some parts of the country. We find out why some Obamacare users are incredibly anxious about their health care coverage for the upcoming year.

A killer ignored

The opioid epidemic was the talk of the 2016 presidential primaries, but even as the death toll rises, the topic has taken a back seat in the general election race. The lack of presidential discourse around drug addiction is especially striking in the battleground state of Ohio, where talk of the epidemic remains inescapable. Do the nominees ignore it at their peril?

Economists say African-Americans are forced to wait longer for pickups than whites and are more likely to have their rides cancelled. We find out how Uber-ing while black can be a bumpy ride.

Dangerous work

Law enforcement and construction can be dangerous professions, but when it comes to physical risks another line of work has them beat. Sifting through federal labor data, we look at which workers are most likely to be injured on the job.
